Crypto Twitter is heating up, and a big player just announced its move to a CC0 public license...
1/GM.
Today, we’re announcing that @moonbirds and @oddities_xyz are moving to the CC0 public license.
We believe this move honors and respects the values of the internet and web3 and starts a new and important phase of the project. 🧵...

Why is this such a big deal?
As Kevin puts it “CC0 empowers anyone with the ability to creatively remix work for commercial purposes.”
Moving to CC0 relinquishes ownership rights so anyone can now use Moonbirds NFTs for commercial use without attributing the original creator.
It’s in line with web3 fundamentals to empower anyone to ‘build permissionless-ly’ but awkwardly straddles NFTs being heralded as true digital ownership.
Does this question why we own NFTs if we let anyone copyright collections? Some popular opinions suggest we’re giving the right-click-save community some firepower.
So what exactly is the point of owning an #NFT under a CC0 license compared to say, having it right click and saved on your PC? I want my ownership represented, either under commercial or personal use rights. I don't want extremist groups using it and having no grounds to fight..

The CC0 summer started off with a number of artists and projects like XCOPY, Decagon, Grant Yun, Nouns and Goblins. This has been rather divisive for the NFT community.
Where do you stand? Do you want individual commercial and personal rights or are you celebrating CC0 summer? 🥴
Instagram adds Flow NFTs
Collectors will now be able to showcase verified Flow NFTs! You’ll be able to connect a Dapper or Coinbase wallet to verify ownership to select what you want to display.
It’s sent Flow flying 44% higher. Flow is a blockchain developed by Dapper Labs, also known for projects like NBA Top Shot.
Meta is web3 bullish. Instagram plans to support Solana NFTs while Facebook has been testing support for ETH & Polygon NFTs on profiles since June.
Unfortunately for Meta, the Federal Trade Commission isn’t a fan. Last week, the FTC blocked a $400m+ acquisition of VR fitness app, Supernatural. It isn’t much money for Meta’s $44b cash on hand, but it shows how concerned the FTC is about Meta’s move into the metaverse 🤨
Now that that’s story is done – am I the only person hearing about Flow for the first time or…?
Bear Market & NYC Laws bite at Robinhood
The bear market bites at Robinhood as they lay off another 23% of employees 😮
This is after cutting 9% just a couple of months ago.
But no, it doesn’t stop there. Robinhood’s Crypto Unit gets a big fat fine of $30m dollars. It looks like Robinhood didn’t do it’s due diligence because the New York’s Department of Financial Services revealed violations in:
Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
Anti-Money Laundering (AML)
Cybersecurity Regulation
Money Transmitter Regulation
Transaction Monitoring Regulation
And here we go again - ANOTHER Robinhood fine - this time $30M by NYDFS. Compliance failures across the board - cybersec, consumer protection, and failed to protect against money laundering.
@FINRA what does it take to lose a B/D license?

And it wasn’t even their first fine. 💀 This has gotta hurt.

(Un)surprisingly there’s quite a few BAYC holders that have boats! 😆 Just thought it was funny.
