Repeat after me: web3 is here to stay

Ronaldo x Binance Drop, Playstation dives into NFTs?!

GM Baos,

Another week another Dumpling coming at you from yours truly.

Reminder that even though Crypto is going through another bear cycle, know that this is bear is not like the ones before.

Know that so much progress has been made.

Know that web3 is here to stay.

The things we cover today echo this reminder:

  • Ronaldo x Binance drop

  • Playstation dives into NFTs

"To the Moon" says Ronaldo

Today football mega star Cristiano Ronaldo collaborates with Binance to launch his very own NFT collection. His hopes are to bring his fanbase to join a web3 community to share in iconic moments of his career.

The collection features a free Mystery Box to own a piece of the footballer's legacy available over the next month. However the only catch is that the NFT is only available for new users who register to Binance using Ronaldo's referral code.

... existing users unfortunately need to purchase the mystery box on secondary. The mystery box is a sneak peek into what the partnership has in store. Future collections will be available in 2023 with varying levels of collectibility.

NFTs continue to be experimented with in order to captivate fan bases and create meaningful interactions and ownership opportunities between avid fan communities.

Which athlete do you think needs to create their own NFT-based community?

The wait for AAA NFT games could be over

Sony Playstation recently filed a patent titled "Tracking Unique In-Game Digital Assets Using Tokens on a Distributed Ledger" suggesting that behind the scenes work continues to brew at the Console gaming giant.

The patent seems to seek legal protection and the rights to a system which would enable the tracking of digital assets created, modified nd transferred within a game. The goal is to provide authenticity to assets and content owned by players and creators on the platform.

Earlier in October PlayStation launches PlayStation Stars it's loyalty program to reward gamers for playing through and completing achievements in games. The rewards allow you to get small discounts, buy games and digital collectables which you can look at and enjoy. Though PlayStation were quick to distance the digital collectibles available were related to NFTs, the recent patent reveals their intentions to continue to explore blockchain technology.

Many gaming companies like Microsoft through it's game Minecraft have been swift to put out a public stance against NFTs. However, we continue to watch the brave companies like Square Enix, Ubisoft and Konami as they embark on the journey into web3 with us.

Which side are you on gamer?
