Dubai is manifesting ✨ the metaverse ✨
Jobs with growing demand, Dubai's Metaverse Strategy, more hacks :c
GM Baos,
I’ve decided that if Dubai is manifesting ✨ the metaverse ✨, then so am I.
Today we cover:
Virtual jobs that will pop off over the next 5 years
Dubai to support 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030
Some more hacks 😔
Dubai will support 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030
Damn, that’s a lot of jobs. But… WTF is a virtual job? Great question.
What are some key pillars of a metaverse?
the visual experience for users
data management and processing
the hardware
We need talent to power each pillar.
To create an immersive digital world for us to adventure in, we need augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and the ability to spin up digital twins (virtual model of a real-life object or landscape).
This means there’ll be huge demand for new creative jobs like 3D artists, animators, metaverse architects, game designers, user experience researchers, AR/VR developers, product designers… the list goes on. Engineers will be an even hotter commodity 🥵
Beyond the experience, us humans have an entirely new tech challenge to support the ecosystem. Some examples:
We need edge computing to allow data collection, storage and processing via smart devices and local networks.
We need 5G networks to allow for edge computing and low latency.
We need Internet-of-Things (IOT) systems on devices to capture real-world data so we can apply 3D construction.
We need artificial intelligence to generate 2D/3D avatars, to power non-playable characters, world generation, processing audio/video and more.
Dubai’s strategy literally covers the entire stack.
It was announced by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, so we know this is serious business.
We launched the Dubai Metaverse Strategy today, which aims to foster innovation in new technology. Dubai is home to over 1,000 companies operating in the metaverse and blockchain sector, which contributes $500 million to our national economy.

The goal is to attract 1,000+ companies building on the blockchain, with a focus on metaverse applications.
If you’re still sceptical, here are some stats that will shock you
There was US$500mn in metaverse real estate sales in 2021
US$13bn from private equity and venture capital was invested in companies developing or supporting metaverse operations in 2021
Its estimated to contribute $5 trillion to the global economy by 2030
What a great time to brush up on some skills that could get you a sweet ‘virtual’ gig 👀
It’s Twitter accounts this time
PHEW. It has been a hot week of hacks on social media accounts over the last couple of days.
Are these connected events? Is this something that we should all be anticipating?
It first started off with DeeKay Motion:

Then, Yuga Labs sends out a warning:
Our security team has been tracking a persistent threat group that targets the NFT community. We believe that they may soon be launching a coordinated attack targeting multiple communities via compromised social media accounts. Please be vigilant and stay safe.

And here we are today with Zeneca as the next target:
Hey all, this is Zeneca.
I'm really sorry for what happened / is happening in relation to my Twitter account being compromised.
I have very little idea of how it happened. I had 2FA on using Google Authenticator, and my physical device(s) haven't left my sight all night.

This is our friendly reminder to ensure you’re maintaining tip top security across all your assets.
A recent report notes that “46,000 people have reported losing over $1 billion in crypto to scams” in 2021.
It’s a crazy time for NFTs. The highs and lows are vast, and they all seem to happen at the same time 😳
Bao-sized news
Bullish on Yuga Labs’ The Otherside. A great thread by @Degentraland.
There was a 1mn big on amazon.eth. It’s gone now but I still felt it worth sharing 🤡
UK is supporting stablecoins now. Tether is launching a British version to capitalise on this.
